Architectural loudspeaker specialist Origin Acoustics won the CEDIA EMEA 2016 Award for Best Innovative Product for its Director Collection of in-ceiling speakers. Reasons cited for the win include the ZipClip tool-less installation system and the DPSD Tweeter, used throughout Origin’s flagship line-up of in-ceiling speakers.

Origin’s win was just one of many that went the way of distributor Invision UK. The company also won Best UK Trade Supplier and Best Training Initiatives.

Nick Berry, Executive Vice President of Origin Acoustics, described the win as “mind-blowing,” adding: “In less than two years since the launch of Origin Acoustics at CEDIA 2015 in Denver, the brand has reached best-of-the-best acclaim in both domestic and international CEDIA markets. Our teams dedication, hard work and pursuit of building the best audio products are being realised.” READ MORE HERE

. . . “the Origin Acoustics D108s are the best in-ceiling speakers I have ever heard.” said Darryl Wilkinson

No in-ceiling architectural speaker is perfect, but the D108 comes stunningly, spectacularly close.

Love him, hate him, or simply wonder what’s up with all the tattoos, there’s no denying the fact that Jeremy Burkhardt is one of those distinct personalities who has had a profound effect on the custom audio/video industry. Then again, he may be someone you’ve never heard of, unless you’re in the custom installation business. Unlike other notables—such as Polk, Carver, and Bose—Burkhardt isn’t the name of a speaker brand. Nevertheless, if you’ve listened to a set of in-wall or in-ceiling speakers, especially one of the bazillion or more models SpeakerCraft has produced over the past 25 years (including tons built for other brands), you’ve felt—or, rather, heard—Burkhardt’s influence on architectural audio…..

Origin Acoustics Director Collection IPX6 Rated Dam Impressive – Flash Flood Alert

Engineered to withstand high pressure salt water unscathed

Riverside, CA – July 13, 2015 – Origin Acoustics, the team that invented the architectural loudspeaker, is proud to announce IPX6 Weatherproof rating on all speakers in its Director Collection.

The entire Director Collection has graduated at the top of their class in extreme salt water spray testing.  In order to pass the test, all models were sprayed as installed with a high-pressure wate
r hose for minutes on end and left to dry over an extended period of time. This test sends water at all angles through a 12.5mm nozzle at a rate of 100 liters/min at a pressure of 100kN/m2 for 3 minutes from a distance of 3 meters. Each model must not fail or show water seepage.

Sure it’s overkill, but the IPX6 rating ensures that these high-performance speakers are safe from the corrosion and internal damage commonly posed by ocean water and rainstorms. Given this rating, there is little contention that the Director Collection is the BEST sounding and finest quality speakers on the market certified for outdoor soffits and decks—backed by a lifetime warranty.

“Our products were designed to be a step above all contenders from day one,” remarked Jeremy Burkhardt, Origin’s CEO. ”Not only is the build quality superior with vertically integrated parts designed specifically for each system, but the materials and our IPX6 weatherproof rating make owning Origin Acoustics the better value and choice.”

AUTHORS David Slater and Steve May, INSIDE CI –  April 7, 2015
Invision UK has signed a distribution deal with the hottest new name in architectural loudspeakers, Origin Acoustics. The latest venture from Jeremy Burkhardt, Ed Hasse and Ken Humphreys, best known for starting the in-wall speaker category with Speakercraft some thirty years ago, Origin Acoustics will offer a 50 model strong portfolio to UK installers from May. In an effort to distinguish itself in the booming in-wall speaker category, Origin Acoustics boasts a smaller footprint design than competitors. Its pledge to integrators is a comprehensive brand solution “and a simplified and more profitable way of doing business.” Invision describes the incoming OA product range, including the flagship ThinFit line, as “game-changing.” The company will make its UK debut at Invision’s Home Technology Showcase 2015, which takes place May 12-13 at Mercedes-Benz World, Weybridge. “The team behind Origin Acoustics has dominated the market for three decades and supplied loudspeakers to literally thousands of homes around the world” says Invision UK topper Steve Beahan. “Their innovative product line-up coupled with Jeremy’s vibrant vision and business plan is beyond exciting, we can’t wait for their debut at our annual event at Mercedes- Benz World in May”.  Read full story click here. logo2

Origin Acoustics Introduces Audiophile-Grade Subwoofers

Origin Acoustics has announced the arrival of their Bassic subwoofer line. The Origin team has created three models that provide deep, dynamic bass to fill out the lowest octaves in the sonic spectrum. “The custom industry has been flooded with low-end subs that do not produce sustainable deep rich bass.  We have engineered amplifiers that push bass output to the highest levels”, says Jeremy Burkhardt, Origins CEO. “The CEDIA channel must stop selling low price point solutions and focus on sound quality. We have created a range of subwoofers that bring critical listening back to the front of the conversation.  The piano gloss finish cabinets are the finest this category has seen since Velodyne launched in the 1990s.  I was inspired to create Bassic based in my love for deep, tight bass response.” Read full story click here

th-1Origin Acoustics Launches New ThinFit Loudspeakers

By Gary Kayye, rAVe Publications 01-19-15

The team that invented the in-wall loudspeaker (at SpeakerCraft) have a new company, Origin Acoustics, and they’ve announced the release of three models in their ThinFit Collection. Designed specifically for installations with limited depth requirements, all three models feature an integrated back-can with a mere 70mm depth.

The TF34 and TF36 share a similar driver configuration. Dual 88mm woofers and dual 88mm midwoofers surround a 20mm tweeter. The TF34 feature Injection Molded Graphite (IMG) woofers and midwoofers with an aluminum tweeter. The TF36 steps up to Glass Fiber woofers and a silk-dome tweeter. Both are mounted on an injection-molded baffle that integrates into the steel back-can creating a ported enclosure.

The TF64DT features a 17cm dual voice-coil, IMG woofer and two 20mm aluminum tweeters. These are also mounted on an injection-molded baffle, which attaches to a steel back-can creating a sealed enclosure. The dual-tweeter design allows both left and right channels to be produced from a single speaker. All three models use the same bezel-less magnetic grille assembly found on the Director D80 series.

The acoustic dampening enclosures are fully integrated with the woofers to create a superior sonic result.  Origin says the enclosures also cut down on room-to-room sound transfer by up to 9 dB.  Click here to read full story.oa-thinwall-0115

Origin Acoustics is Now Shipping, and the Company is Kinda Normal

CEPro Logo

Jeremy Burkhardt’s company Origin Acoustics is now shipping over 50 models in the Director, Producer and Composer collection, ranging in price from $200 to $3,200 per pair. And the company is kind of like … normal.

CEDIA 2014 for Jeremy Burkhardt’s Origin Acoustics was more about product than personality.
Just eight months after announcing the new speaker company Origin Acoustics, Jeremy Burkhardt and team are now shipping products. That’s quite a feat in this business, where product shipments often lag long behind launch dates. Origin demonstrated products to select dealers in June and made its public debut at CEDIA Expo 2014 in September, so shipping products by year-end is truly something. Shipping now are over 50 models in Origin’s Director, Producer and Composer collections, ranging in price from $200 to $3,200 per pair. While we’ve seen the same ol’ Burkhardt enthusiasm from his SpeakerCraft days, much of his famous exuberance has been replaced by a serious attention to business. CEDIA for Origin was decidedly subdued, with a modest but classy listening room (below), and traditional speaker displays.Instead of flamboyance, CEDIA attendees were treated to the nerdiness of audio engineer and co-founder Ed Haas. Burkhardt has been spending his time on the road, meeting with dealers, teaching them about better business practices. As for product, Origin touts several innovations including “more bass in less space,” toolless installation, sexier grilles that obscure the speaker’s black innards, and the patented Dual Plane Stabilized Diaphragm (DPSD), “an advanced suspension system that allows the tweeter to play louder, cleaner and with greater articulation, squeezing every last detail out of your recordings.”For Origin articles, videos and more, visit the company’s landing page on

No half-naked dancers, but CEDIA attendees got some Ed Haase (right) engineering action.

Producer Collection New Price/Performance Breakthrough

Origin Acoustics Announces The Producer Collection of In-Ceiling Loudspeakers

Origin Acoustics, the team that invented the architectural loudspeaker, is proud to announce the release of the Producer Collection of in-ceiling loudspeakers. Beginning with a new vision of the price/performance ratio, these speakers are designed for multi-room installations where system cost is very critical.

It is not all that difficult to produce incredible sound when cost is no object, but when price points become more restrictive the results are often compromised. The Producer Collection is a great example of what can happen when a group of engineers are focused on squeezing the most every component. Read More

Director Collection to redefine the category

CEDIA 2014 – Denver, CO – September 1, 2014 – (Virtual Press Office) — Origin Acoustics, the team that invented the in-wall speaker, announced today the introduction of the Director Collection as a key element of their worldwide launch. Designed from the ground up by famed speaker engineer and SpeakerCraft founder, Ken Humphreys, the Director Collection represents an innovative leap forward in technology and performance.

The Director Collection addresses the two greatest challenges inherent to an in-ceiling speaker. The first being limitations in bass response and the second being limited dispersion. Starting with a blank canvas Humphreys and his team focused on these two points and delivered elegant solutions to both…  Read More

Origin Acoustics Packs Bigger Bass into Smaller Space

Jeremy Burkhardt’s new audio company starts leaking product features, including a design that packs an 8-inch woofer in a 6-inch cut-out. The new line will be revealed at CEDIA Expo 2014.

A handful of dealers flew to California earlier this year to experience Jeremy Burkhardt’s new speaker company Origin Acoustics.

While the dealers were not able to hear the speakers, they enjoyed a sneak peek of the product line and some features apparently unique to Origin.

There was one new design feature that most resonated with the group and it was all about … aesthetics.

Sure, Origin will have aesthetically correct grilles for its in-wall speakers, but the company goes one better, packing more bass into a smaller space…  Read more

When Jeremy Burkhardt returns to CEDIA EXPO next week as co-owner of audio start-up Origin Acoustics, he knows that he will have a lot to prove.

During an exclusive interview last month in Austin, TX, the former SpeakerCraft CEO made it clear that he wants the industry to look at Origin Acoustics as a truly innovative audio manufacturer, with products designed from scratch to rethink the old architectural loudspeaker design paradigm.

“The hardest thing we’re going to be faced with is, ‘Oh, it’s just SpeakerCraft again,’” Burkhardt said near the end of a three-hour conversation. “We have to overcome that, and that’s why we’ve worked so hard at creating truly different products, and coming up with new business tools for our dealers.” Read more
